Menziarahi maqam Nabi Muhammad SAW adalah sunat (mustahab) sama ada bagi lelaki mahupun perempuan kerana umumnya hadis yang diriwayatkan oleh Imam al-Dar Qutni, daripada Ibnu Umar berkata, bahawa Rasulullah SAW bersabda: "Barang siapa yang mengerjakan ibadah haji dan menziarahi kuburku selepas kewafatanku, seolah-olah dia menziarahiku ketika aku masih hidup (Demikianlah yang disebut di dalam kitab Kasysyaf al-Qinna', Jld 5, H: 30).
