Firman Allah dalam ayat 92 surah ali-Imran yang bermaksud: Kamu sekali-kali tidak sampai kepada kebajikan (yang sempurna), sebelum kamu menafkahkan sebahagian harta yang kamu cintai. Dan apa saja yang kamu nafkah, maka sesungguhnya Allah mengetahuinya.
"By no means shall you attain Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, Paradise), unless you spend (in Allah's cause) of that which you love; & whatever of good you spend, Allah SWT knows it well." Glorious Quran 3: 92.
Amalan wakaf yang memberi manfaat kepada seluruh umat seperti mana yang terdapat dalam ayat al-Quran di atas telah diteruskan oleh para sahabat dan generasi seterusnya dalam memartabatkan dan mengangkat syiar Islam di seluruh dunia seperti mana Universiti al-Azhar, Mesir yang dibina di atas nama wakaf dan kesannya telah melahirkan ramai graduan pelbagai bidang pada setiap tahun.
Berdasarkan sebuah hadith Rasulullah SAW riwayat Muslim iaitu yang bermaksud: Apabila mati anak Adam, akan terhentilah amalannya kecuali tiga (3) perkara iaitu
(1) sedekah jariah (harta yang diwakafkan),
(2) ilmu yang dimanfaatkannya dan
(3) anak soleh yang mendoakannya.
Maka daripada intipati hadith tersebut, orang ramai diseru melakukan amalan wakaf dengan manfaat boleh diterima oleh seluruh masyarakat.
