Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda, maksudnya: “Hajarul Aswad itu diturunkan dari syurga, warna lebih putih daripada susu dan dosa-dosa anak cucu Adamlah yang menjadikannya hitam.”
Dikatakan juga Nabi Ibrahim a.s yang menemui Batu Hitam dan apabila baginda membina semula Kaabah, Malaikat Jibril a.s membawa batu itu keluar dan memberikan kepada baginda.
Menurut cerita, apabila Nabi Ibrahim AS siap membina Kaabah, dengan bantuan puteranya, Nabi Ismail a.s, Allah memerintahkan baginda melakukan tawaf.
Baginda tidak dapat menetapkan bilangan yang tepat pusingan dilakukannya. Baginda berasa mereka yang lain juga akan keliru.
Justeru, baginda berdoa kepada Allah SWT untuk memberikannya suatu tanda untuk digunakan bagi mengira pusingan. Malaikat Jibril membawakan batu hitam terbabit kepadanya.
