Allah SWT berfirman yang bermaksud: Adakah patut mereka dengki kepada manusia atas nikmat yang Allah berikan kepada mereka daripada kurnia-Nya. (Quran, an-Nisa: 54). Menurut Imam al-Ghazali tujuh perkara yang tercela yang boleh merosakkan diri sendiri. Antaranya; suka kepada permusuhan, merasakan kemuliaan diri, takbur, mengagumi diri sendiri, takut hilang cita-cita yang diinginkan, suka menjadi ketua dan jiwanya jahat dan kikir.
